Information about Care at Home Services as a company

History

Care at Home Services (South East) Ltd was formed in 1993, as a privately owned family company supplying care within the local areas of Bexhill, Hastings & St Leonard’s.

Over the years since inception, further offices have been added in the towns of Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells and the company is now one of the leading providers of care to service users funded by East Sussex and Kent County Councils, as well as having a growing private base.

In 2009, we completed the extension and refurbishment of our head office in Bexhill to accommodate the extra support staff needed to cope with the expanding workload resulting from block contracts awarded in 2007 by East Sussex Social Services.

We strive for high standards of care and a dedication to continue to improve for the benefit of all of our Service Users. Meeting the needs of our Service Users is of paramount importance and this is achieved by selecting the right care staff with the experience and skills to meet those needs.

In recognition of this overriding aim, in 2008 Care at Home Services won the Sussex-Enterprise sponsored large employer training category in the Sussex Spring Awards which recognise excellence in work-based learning.

Subsequently, in December 2009, we achieved our Investors In People award.

We continue to play an active role in our local communities by supporting various local initiatives and charities.

In 2009 we achieved the Investors In People standard.

My clients often ask me if I am qualified and I show them my NVQ badge. This is the first qualification I have ever achieved and I am very proud of it.”

Care at Home Services (South East) supports local charity Homecall

Homecall is a local charity that provides a home visiting scheme for the visually impaired in Bexhill and surrounding areas. Care at Home Services is proud to be one of the main supporters of the charity by pledging another £5,000 last year to help keep its important visiting service going.

Care at Home's managing partner, Deborah McDowell, said "We first stepped in to offer our support when Jenny Private, the Bexhill organiser for Homecall, highlighted the charity's plight in the local newspaper in September 2008. They needed £15,000 to safeguard the home visiting service they provide to 64 blind and partially sighted people in the area and we were pleased to help".

Deborah has since been appointed as a Trustee for the charity. She said "Just as Care at Home Services supports so many people in the community with personal care and practical support, we know how important it is for charities like Homecall to be able to carry on their good work. Lots of people rely on it as their lifeline".

Deborah adds "We were pleased to be up-front in pledging our support to the charity and, thus encourage others to follow. There are many local community members who continue to contribute what they can to support Homecall and it would have been a tragedy if it had to fold. We couldn't, in all conscience, watch that happen".

"I was extremely honoured to be asked to join the Board of Trustees as I feel it is just a small way to contribute to the hard work already being done by a number of dedicated people who have supported the charity for a long time".

As a testament to its success, Homecall celebrated its 25th Anniversary in March 2010.

Care at Home Services (South East) sponsors local Achievers Awards

The unsung heroes of our local communities were recognised at a special awards evening organised by the Observer newspapers in Bexhill and Hastings.

The Bexhill and Hastings Achievers Awards are rooted as firm fixtures in the towns' calendars and Care at Home Services was delighted to sponsor the 'Carer of the Year' Award at both ceremonies. The award recognises the commitment of private individuals to caring for family members or others in the community.

In Bexhill, managing partner, Deborah McDowell, handed over the award to Quentin Rollings who had been nominated by his family for looking after his wife through a period of extreme illness. While in Hastings, the award went to Margaret Green who was nominated by her granddaughter for looking after her and her 3 sisters, keeping them out of Social Services' care. She was presented with her award by Care at Home Services partner Dan McDowell.

Deborah commented "I was really pleased that we were able help support and celebrate the achievements of so many local unsung heroes, particularly those in the 'Care of the Year' category. Some of the nominations were truly inspiring".
